W.B. YEATS / THE FOLLY OF BEING COMFORTED / LA LOCURA DE SER CONSOLADO

THE FOLLY OF BEING COMFORTED

One that is ever king said yesterday:
«Your well-belovèd's hair has treads of grey,
And little shadows come about her eyes;
Time can but make it easier to be wise
Though now it seems impossible, and so
All that you need is patience».

                                              Heart cries, «No,
I have not  a crumb of confort, not a grain.
Time can but make her beauty over again:
Because of that great nobleness of hers
The fire that stirs about here, when she stirs,
Burns but more clearly. O she had not these ways
When all the wild summer was in her gaze».

O heart! O heart1 is she'd but turn her head,
You'd know the folly of being comforted.

LA LOCURA DE SER CONSOLADO

Siempre amable, ayer me dijo alguien:
«Ya le encanece el cabello a tu amada,
y envuelven leves ojeras sus ojos;
paciencias es todo lo que te hace falta,
pues si imposible te parece ahora
sabiduría el tiempo».

                                                «No», clama
el corazón, «ningún consuelo quiero,
que su belleza el tiempo recrearla
solo podría: por su gran nobleza,
las llamas que con ella brillan, claras
como nunca arden cuando brilla ella.
Cuando el fiero verano su mirada
entero contenía, ella no era
de esta manera.» Ah corazón, para
ver la locura de ser consolado
con que ella vuelva la cabeza basta.
